About
A more personal approach to care at home.
Illuminate Memory was created around a simple belief: receiving support should not require someone to surrender the rhythms, relationships, and individuality that make home feel like home.
Illuminate Memory is a small San Francisco practice offering one-on-one non-medical home care. One caregiver, one client, in the client's own home — that structure is deliberate. It is what makes it possible to learn a person rather than a task list.
Much of the work is intergenerational. A younger caregiver and an older client spend real time together: cooking, walking the block, sorting photographs, listening to records, telling stories that get told more than once and are worth hearing each time. That relationship is the service, not a byproduct of it.
Aging in place asks for support that adapts. As needs change, hours and routines change with them, so home can keep working as home for as long as possible.
Memory and belonging are closely tied. Familiar rooms, familiar objects, and familiar people carry a great deal of a person's sense of self, which is why thoughtful caregiver matching and individualized support matter as much here as any specific task.

Meet the Founder
Amelia Hanley
Amelia Hanley is the founder of Illuminate Memory, LLC. She has spent the past four years developing the Illuminate Memory practice through individualized dementia, memory care, and elder care work in San Francisco.
Amelia received dementia care training through the Institute on Aging in San Francisco and completed classical academic training in psychology and neuroscience at the University of San Francisco. Her work blends evidence-informed memory support, relational caregiving, somatic awareness, emotional presence, and practical care planning.
In practice, that means paying close attention to the ordinary details of a day — how someone moves through their morning, what steadies them, what they would rather do themselves — and building non-medical support around what she observes, in partnership with clients and their authorized family members.
